Mbuji-Mayi

Town and capital of Kasai Oriental province, in south-central Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), located 900 km/560 mi east of Kinshasa; population (2001 est) 874,700. Mbuji-Mayi dates from 1909 when diamonds were found in the area.
