McClellan, George (1796–1847)

US surgeon. A brilliant teacher and surgeon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he founded Jefferson Medical College in 1825, with much dissent from the University of Pennsylvania. The trustees dissolved the faculty in 1839, prompting him to leave and found the medical college of Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. McClellan was born in Woodstock, Connecticut.
