McComb

City in Pike County, southern Mississippi; population (2000) 13,300. McComb stands 93 km/58 mi east-southeast of Natchez and 24 km/15 mi north of the Louisiana border.

The construction of the Illinois Central Railroad between Jackson and New Orleans in 1857 prompted the foundation of the city. McComb lies in an area of farms and forests, and is a trade and distribution hub for local livestock, cotton, vegetables, dairy products, and timber. There are railway workshops, timber mills, clothing manufacturers, and a number of light industries in the city.
