McEwan, Geraldine (1932– )

English actor. After a successful career as a stage player with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, she became a television star in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1978), Mapp & Lucia (1985–86), Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1990), and Mulberry (1992–93). Her films include Foreign Body (1986) and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991).

McEwan was born in Windsor. She first received attention for Member of the Wedding in 1957, and went on to produce notable performances at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in The Entertainer (1957), Twelfth Night (1957, 1960), Much Ado About Nothing (1961), and Hamlet (1961).
