McFly

English pop band. Their fresh youth and retro 60s vocal style generated wide appeal in the UK. Based on their hit singles ‘Five Colours in her Hair’ and ‘Obviously’, their debut album Room on the Third Floor (2004) entered the UK album charts at number one. The group won the Brit Award for best pop act in 2005.

Members include Tom Fletcher (1985- ; guitar and vocals), Danny Jones (1986- ; guitar and vocals), Dougie Poynter (1987- ; bass), and Harry Judd (1985- ; drums). Many of their songs were co-written by James Bourne of Busted. With all members of the band under 20 years old in 2004, they became the youngest band ever to enter the album charts at number one. The 2005 single ‘All About You’, with backing from a 60-piece orchestra, was an official release for the charity Comic Relief.

Other hits from Room on the Third Floor include the title track ‘Room on the Third Floor’ and ‘That Girl’. The band was named for US actor Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly in the science fiction comedy Back to the Future (1985). In 2005 the band appeared in Lindsay Lohan's film Just My Luck and contributed several singles to the soundtrack.
