McGuire, Eddie (1948– )

Scottish composer. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music 1966–70 and in Stockholm as a pupil of Swedish composer Ingvar Lidholm. He has played flute with the Scottish folk group The Whistlebinkies since 1973. His music has been performed at the Edinburgh Festival and London Promenade concerts. Recent works include A Glasgow Symphony (1990) and A Trombone Concerto (1991).

Symphonies of Trains (1992), Sidesteps (1992), and Zephyr (1993) for ensemble; Loonscapes (1983) and The Web (1989) for soprano and ensemble; Elegy for piano trio (1990), Eastern Echoes (1991) and Fountain of Tears (1992) for flute and guitar, Remembrance for oboe trio (1993); piano music.
