McIntosh, Genista Mary (1946– )

English arts administrator. Following a long career with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she was appointed executive director of the Royal National Theatre 1990–97, and became the first woman chief executive of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1997.

McIntosh was born in London and educated at the University of York. She began her career with the York Festival of the Arts. Her appointments with the Royal Shakespeare Company included casting director 1972–77, planning controller 1977–84, senior administrator 1984–90, and associate producer in 1990.
