McKinney

City and seat of Collin County, northeastern Texas; population (1990) 21,300. McKinney lies on Interstate 75 and the East Fork of the Trinity River, 45 km/28 mi north-northeast of Dallas.

Established in 1842 in the Black Lands belt, McKinney is at the centre of an agricultural region where beef and dairy cattle are raised, and cotton, corn, and grain are grown. Agricultural processing and various other industries contribute to the economy. The city experienced suburban growth in the 1980s.
