Texarkana

Twin cities that straddle the Texas–Arkansas border, near Red River, USA; population (2000) 34,800 (Texas), 26,400 (Arkansas). Texarkana is a railway distribution and processing centre for a lumbering and agricultural area, dealing in beef-cattle, dairy products, and cotton. Manufactured products include furniture and textiles, and sand and gravel are quarried. Texarkana was settled in 1874.

The name is made up from Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
