McMath, Robert Raynolds (1891–1962)

US astronomer and engineer. With Judge Henry S Hulbert, he established at Lake Angelus, Michigan, the McMath–Hulbert Observatory 1930, which became a major centre of research in solar physics.

Born in Detroit, he was for many years professor at the University of Michigan, and advised the US government on scientific policy, especially through the National Science Foundation.
