McNichols, Stephen L R (1914–1997)

US lawyer and politician. An assistant US attorney general (1946–48), he became a Democrat Colorado state senator (1948–54). As state governor (1957–63), he improved conditions for migrant workers and established a state resources development office. He later opened a Denver law firm. McNicholas was born in Denver, Colorado. Briefly an FBI agent, he practised law in Denver before joining the navy in World War II (1942–46).
