McPartland, Jimmy

McPartland, Jimmy (James Duigald) (1907–1991)

US cornet player. He was one of the founders of the Chicago school of jazz in the 1920s. He was influenced by Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke, whom he replaced in a group called the Wolverines in 1924. He also recorded with guitarist Eddie Condon, and from the late 1940s often worked with his wife, English-born pianist Marian McPartland.
