McPherson

City and seat of McPherson County, central Kansas, 40 km/25 mi northeast of Hutchinson; population (2000) 13,800.

McPherson was established in 1872 on the Santa Fe Trail. Situated in a farming area interspersed with oilfields, it has a variety of processing plants and other light industries. The city is the site of McPherson College (founded 1887) and Central College (founded 1884).
