McQueen, (Terrence) Steve(n) (1930–1980)

US film actor. He was admired for his portrayals of the strong, silent loner, and noted for performing his own stunt work. After television success with the television series Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958–61), he became a film star with The Magnificent Seven (1960). His other films include The Great Escape (1963), Bullitt (1968), Papillon (1973), and The Hunter (1980).

His other films include The War Lover (1962), Love with the Proper Stranger (1963), Soldier in the Rain (1963), Baby, the Rain Must Fall (1965), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Sand Pebbles (1966), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Getaway (1972), The Towering Inferno (1974), and Tom Horn (1980).

McQueen, Steve (1969– )

British artist. He works primarily in film and was the winner of the 1999 Turner Prize for his black-and-white silent film Deadpan, in which a house collapses in front of him over and over again, inspired by the comedian Buster Keaton.

He studied at Chelsea School of Art, Goldsmiths' College, London, and Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam.
