McRae, Colin (1968–2007)

Scottish rally driver who, in 1995, driving a Subaru Impreza, became the first ever British driver to win the World Rally Championship. At age 27 he was also the youngest ever champion. In 1994 he had become the first British driver since Roger Clark (1939–1998) in 1976 to win the RAC Rally, a race he won again in 1995 and 1997. He joined the Ford team in 1998 and switched to Citroën in 2003.

McRae first came to the fore in 1991, when he gained the first of two consecutive British Rally Championship titles. He won his first world championship race in 1993. He has finished as runner-up in the World Rally Championship on three occasions (1996, 1997, and 2001) and won the 50th Safari Rally in East Africa in 2002.
