Mecklenburg County

Administrative district in southern North Carolina; area 1,368 sq km/528 sq mi, population (1990) 511,400. It is North Carolina's most populous county and has its seat at Charlotte, the largest city in the state.

Mecklenburg County, located in the Piedmont, is bounded on the west by the Catawba Riverand on the south by South Carolina. The industry, commerce, and residential suburbs of the city of Charlotte increasingly dominate this formerly agricultural county.
