Medfield| Town in Norfolk County, eastern Massachusetts; population (2000 est) 6,700. Medfield is situated 27 km/17 mi southwest of Boston, on the east bank of the Charles River. It has developed from being a largely rural, affluent community involved in cattle-raising, into a growing suburb. |
| Medfield, originally called by the American Indian name ‘Boggastow’, was founded in 1650 and incorporated the following year. It was burned down during King Philip's War (1675), but swiftly rebuilt. |
| In the 19th century, it was for a long period the home of US landscape artist George Inness. |
