Meier, Johanna (1938– )

US soprano. She studied at the Manhattan School of Music and made her debut at the New York City Opera in 1969, as the Countess in Capriccio; she made further appearances there, as Donna Anna, Senta, Louise, and Tosca. From 1975 she performed at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, as Marguerite, the Marschallin, Brünnhilde (Die Walküre), and Strauss's Empress. Other roles include Isolde (with Welsh National Opera, 1980 and at Bayreuth, 1981; Leonore and Senta (Vienna Staatsoper, from 1983); and Chrysothemis (Pittsburgh, 1989).
