Meinzer, Oscar Edward (1876-1948)

US geologist and hydrologist. His extensive research in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona on groundwater, water tables, aquifers, and artesian wells, especially as applied to agriculture and economic geology, has made him the recognized father of groundwater hydrology. He was chief of the Division of Ground Water of the US Geological Survey from 1913 until his retirement in 1946. Meinzer was born in Davis, Illinois.
