Melani, Jacopo (1623-1676)

Italian composer. His father was a sexton at Pistoia and had seven other musical sons. He was maestro di cappella of Pistoia Cathedral, 1657-67, and wrote a number of comic operas for Florence. Jacopo's brother Alessandro (1639-1703) was maestro di cappella at Bologna, Pistoia, and Rome, and composed five operas, motets, oratorios, cantatas, etc.

operas Il potestà di Colognole (1657), Il girello, Il pazzo per forza (1658), Il vecchio burlato (1659), Enea in Italia, Ercole in Tebe (1661), Il ritorno d'Ulisse (1669).
