Mendelssohn , Fanny

    0.03 sec.

Mendelssohn (-Bartholdy), Fanny (Cäcilie) (1805–1847)

German pianist and composer. She was encouraged in composition by her family but published very few of her 500 works, most of them piano pieces and Lieder (songs), which have enjoyed a revival. She was the sister of Felix Mendelssohn.

She studied with Marie Bigot in Paris and C F Zelter in Berlin. She was the focal point of her Berlin Salon in the 1830s and played her brother's first piano concerto in public in 1838. Her D minor piano trio of 1846 does not suffer from comparison with the early works of her brother.
