Mendon

Town in Monroe County, western New York State, 21 km/13 mi south-southeast of Rochester; population (1990) 6,800.

Mormon leader Brigham Young lived in Mendon from 1830 to 1832, the period when he first saw the Book of Mormon and was baptized into the church by its founder Joseph Smith (Smith's chair factory was located here). Mendon is still largely a rural, agricultural community, and includes the village of Honeoye Falls (population 2,300).
