Mercer County

Administrative district in west-central New Jersey; area 588 sq km/227 sq mi, population (1990) 325,800. Mercer County is bounded on the west by the Delaware River. Its seat and largest city is Trenton.

Most of Mercer County is characterized by light manufacturing, agriculture (farms producing market garden vegetables, fruit, poultry, and dairy goods), and business and residential areas. Heavy industry is concentrated in and around the city of Trenton. The educational complex of Princeton is in the northern part, and Hightstown is in the east
