Merciless Parliament

In England, parliament summoned by the Lords Appellant in 1388; it was called ‘merciless’ after it imposed the death penalty for treason on five supporters of Richard II. Three escaped abroad, but Sir Robert Tresilian, Chief Justice of the King's Bench, and Sir Nicholas Brembre, Lord Mayor of London, were executed.
