Mermaid Theatre

London theatre, the project of English character actor Bernard Miles, opened in 1959. With a capacity of 600 seats, it was the first theatre built in the City of London since Shakespearean times. Its innovative open stage and single-tier arrangement influenced modern theatre design.

Among its productions was an annual performance of Treasure Island, with Miles as Long John Silver. By the early 2000s it was used primarily as a conference centre.
