Merodach-baladan (lived 8th century BC)

Ruler of Babylon 721-710 and 703 BC.

Under Merodach-baladan the Babylonians reasserted their independence. He was deposed 710, after a long struggle, by Sargon II, King of Assyria. In 703 BC, Merodach-baladan again seized the throne, but was deposed by Sargon's son and successor Sennacherib.

In 700 he fled into the marshlands where he probably died.
