Wakefield

Town in Middlesex County, northeast Massachusetts; population (2001 est) 25,000. It is situated on the Saugus River, 16 km/10 mi north of Boston. The site of the first rattan factory in the world, Wakefield manufactures leather products, electronic components, chemicals, and machinery. It is also a residential suburb for Boston.

Wakefield was settled in 1639 and incorporated in 1812 as South Reading. It took its current name in 1868, after Cyrus Wakefield who built the rattan factory. It has 93 entries on the national register of historic places.

Wakefield

Historic site in Westmoreland County, southeast Virginia. It is situated on the southern bank of the Potomac River near the mouth of Popes Creek. It is the birthplace of the 1st US president, George Washington. The estate was acquired by his father, Augustine, in 1718. The original house is gone, but an eight-room house typical of construction in the area during the early 18th century is on the site. Stratfoed Hall, the birthplace of Confederate general, Robert E Lee, is 8 km/5 mi to the southeast.

Performers included the Kizmet Belly Dancers from Marsden, Rawthorpe drumming group Mikwano and the Merrie City Singers from Wakefield.
The groups taking part were the social club's Singing For Fun group, the Good in Parts choir and the trio Yorkshire Broads, from Leeds, and Wakefield's Merrie City Singers.
The other groups taking part are Wakefield's Merrie City Singers, several senior music students from St John Fisher Catholic High School in Dewsbury, and from Leeds, Good In Parts a 25-strong mixed choir, plus the women's trio, Yorkshire Broads.
