Merrill

City and seat of Lincoln County, in north-central Wisconsin; population (2000) 10,100. Merrill is situated at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Prairie rivers, 24 km/15 mi north of Wausau.

Founded in 1847 and originally a lumbering centre, Merrill now produces paper, furniture, woollen goods, and beer. The surrounding area is agricultural.
