Merriman, Nan (1920- )

US mezzo-soprano. She studied in Los Angeles with Alexia Bassian, making her debut in Cincinnati in 1942 as La Cieca, but her real career began with Toscanini's patronage, and she recorded roles in Falstaff, Rigoletto, and Otello with him. In 1953 she sang Baba the Turk in The Rake's Progress at Edinburgh.
