Merula, Tarquinio (c. 1594-1665)

Italian composer and organist. He held appointments alternately at Bergamo and Cremona and was court and church organist at Warsaw in 1624. From 1628 to 1639 he was at Cremona as maestro di cappella at the cathedral; he returned to this post in 1652 after an interval at Bergamo.

masses, motets, psalms, concerti spirituali and other church music; madrigals, canzoni for voices and/or instruments; church sonatas.
