Mesrine, Jacques (1937-1979)

French criminal. From a wealthy family, he became a burglar celebrated for his glib tongue, sadism, and bravado, and for his escapes from the police and prison. Towards the end of his life he had links with left-wing guerrillas. He was shot dead by the police.
