Messner, Joseph (1893-1969)

Austrian organist, conductor, and composer. He studied in Munich and was appointed organist to Salzburg Cathedral in 1922. He also conducted there, including the music in the cathedral during the Salzburg Festival.

Works

operas Hadassa (1925), Das letzte Recht (1932), Ines, Agnes Bernauer (1935); 11 masses, Te Deum and other church music; oratorios Das Leben and Die vier letzten Dinge; three symphonies and Symphonische Festmusik for orchestra; Sinfonietta for piano and orchestra.
