Meteorological Office

Organization based in Bracknell, England, producing weather reports for the media and conducting specialist work for industry, agriculture, and transport. Established in London, England, in 1855, it is a partner in the British National Space Centre (BNSC)

The first weather map in England, showing the trade winds and monsoons, was made in 1688, and the first telegraphic weather report appeared in 1848. The first daily telegraphic weather map was prepared at the Great Exhibition in 1851. The first regular daily collections of weather observations by telegraph and the first British daily weather reports were made in 1860, and the first daily printed maps appeared 1868.
