meta-search engine

Search utility, usually accessed via a Web site, that sends search strings to a number of individual search engines. This makes it possible to query up to five or more search engines - for example AltaVista, HotBot, or Lycos - at the same time. Popular meta-search engines include Dogpile and Mamma.
