Metheny, Pat(rick) Bruce

Metheny, Pat(rick) Bruce (1954- )

US jazz guitarist and composer, especially known for bridging the gap between rock and jazz in ‘fusion’ music. His albums include American Garage (1979), Song X (1986), and We Live Here (1994). He received Grammy Awards in 1982, 1990, 1992, and 2001.

A guitar prodigy, he taught the instrument at the University of Miami in Florida and Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, during his teens. He joined keyboardist Gary Burton's band in 1974 and later signed to ECM records. With keyboardist Lyle Mays he formed his own band in 1977 and rose to the top of the jazz charts, as well as entering the pop charts.

Other albums include Offramp (1982), Still Life (Talking) (1987), and Thinking of Now (2002). He also composed the soundtracks for the films The Falcon and the Snowman (1985) and A Map of the World (1999).
