Methuen

Town in Essex County, northeastern Massachusetts; population (2000 est) 43,800. On the Spicket and Merrimack rivers, Methuen lies near the New Hampshire border, between Haverhill (to the northeast) and Lawrence (to the south). It manufactures shoes, electronics, textiles, finished garments, paper goods, and food products, and is a residential suburb. It was founded in 1642 as part of Haverhill, and incorporated in 1726.

There are 43 entries on the national register of historic places, including the Methuen Memorial Music Hall (1899–1909), which houses the Great Organ, the first concert organ in the USA, built in 1863 for Boston.
