    0.51 sec.

Meulen, Adam Frans (François) van der (1632-1690)

Flemish-born French painter. He was appointed battle painter to Louis XIV, travelling with the French armies and painting the principal battles and sieges in Flanders for the château of Marly.

He was born in Brussels and was a pupil of Frans Snyders. Meulen won the patronage of the French minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert, and took part with Charles Le Brun in the decoration of Marly and Versailles, cooperating with him in the design of the Gobelins tapestries.

His works helped to popularize the Flemish style of panoramic landscape in France.
