Phil Boddington, 45, whose grandfather set up the farm in Mevagissey, Cornwall, 60 years ago, said: "Unfortunately in the eyes of insurers and health and safety it's seen to be a risk to let the public in to what's deemed to be a strawberry factory.
Some houses were flooded in Fishguard and Cardigan in Wales, while in Cornwall more than 30 properties were hit by wind-driven high tides in Looe, Fowey, Mevagissey and Flushing.
Most plough onwards towards the tourist bait of spots like Looe, Polperro and Mevagissey with their fudge, cream teas and seagulls.
