Meyer, Karl

Meyer, Karl (1899-1990)

German-born US biochemist. He left Germany in 1930, taking up a post at the University of California, Berkeley, before joining Columbia University to direct the department of biochemistry at the Eye Institute (1933-67). His research team identified and analysed basic chemical components of connective tissues. On retirement, he spent ten years at Yeshiva University in Israel, returning to Columbia as emeritus professor. Meyer was born in Kerpen, Germany.
