Mfecane

In African history, a series of disturbances in the early 19th century among communities in what is today the eastern part of South Africa. They arose when chief Shaka conquered the Nguni peoples between the Tugela and Pongola rivers, then created by conquest a centralized, militaristic Zulu kingdom from several communities, resulting in large-scale displacement of people.
