Michael, Roger (Rogier) (c. 1550-c. 1619)

Flemish tenor and composer. He studied under his father, Simon Michael, a musician to the Emperor Ferdinand I. He became a tenor in the electoral chapel at Dresden in 1575 and Kapellmeister in 1587, being succeeded in the latter post by Schütz in 1619.

Works

introits in the motet style, settings of hymn-tunes in four parts and other sacred music, including Christmas Story.
