kraken

Gigantic sea monster, which, according to legend, lurks off the shores of Norway. It was first described in 1752 by the Norwegian bishop Pontoppidan.

Later in the seventeenth century, the Furies are among the cast in plays such as James Shirley's The Traytor (1635) and Thomas Nabbes's Microcosmus (1637).
