Micronesian

Any of the indigenous Australoid and Polynesian peoples of Micronesia, including Pacific islands north of the Equator, such as the Caroline, Marshall, Mariana, and Gilbert islands. Their languages belong to the Austronesian family.

There are many languages belonging to the Austronesian family, the largest of which are Chamorro of Guam (40,000), Gilbertese of Kiribati (40,000), Trukese (25,000), Marshallese (20,000), Ponapean (15,000), Palauan (10,000), Yapese (5,000), and Nauruan (5,000). The western islands were settled first, probably by seafarers from Southeast Asia.
