MS-DOS

Computer operating system produced by Microsoft Corporation, widely used on microcomputers with Intel x86 and Pentium family microprocessors. A version called PC-DOS is sold by IBM specifically for its personal computers. MS-DOS and PC-DOS are usually referred to as DOS. MS-DOS first appeared in 1981, and was similar to an earlier system from Digital Research called CP/M. Developments in Windows software have led Microsoft to cease work on any further versions of MS-DOS.
