coral snake

Venomous snake. Elaps corallinus is a typical specimen; it occurs in the tropical forests of South America, and its small body, less than 1 m/3.3 ft in length, is ringed with coral-red. It is highly poisonous.

Coral snakes are in the family Elapidae, suborder Serpentes, order Squamata, class Reptilia.
