Midhurst

Town in West Sussex, England, 19 km/12 mi north of Chichester; population (2001) 5,000. Midhurst has some fine 16th-century and 17th-century buildings, including a grammar school founded in 1672. The town also has an 18th-century mansion, Cowdray (now in ruins), and a museum. There are polo grounds at Cowdray Park. Ambersham Common is 3 km/2 mi away.

I know this forest country well, though I was born myself in the Hundred of Easebourne, in the Rape of Chichester, hard by the village of Midhurst.
