Midlands

Area of central England corresponding roughly to the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia. The East Midlands comprises Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, and Nottinghamshire. The West Midlands covers the metropolitan district of West Midlands created from parts of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire, and split into the metropolitan boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Coventry, Birmingham, Walsall, Solihull, and Wolverhampton; and (often included) the South Midlands comprising Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire.
