Michael the Brave (1558–1601)

Voivode (ruler) of Wallachia from 1593. He successfully drove back Turkish invasions before invading Transylvania in 1599, where he defeated Andreas Bathory and was proclaimed prince. After having expelled the voivode of Moldavia in 1600, he united under his rule three principalities and all Romanians. He was murdered on the imperial general Basta's orders.
