Kalinin, Mikhail Ivanovich (1875–1946)

Soviet politician, founder of the newspaper Pravda. He was prominent in the 1917 October Revolution, and in 1919 became head of state (president of the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet government) until 1937, then president of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet until 1946.
