Mikszáth, Kálmán (1847-1910)

Hungarian writer. A prolific novelist, short-story writer, and journalist, Mikszáth satirized the contemporary society of the Hungarian countryside with irony and humour. He was one of the first to use dialect in the novel. Among his works are Különös házassag/A Strange Marriage 1900, Szent Péter esernyöje/St Peter's Umbrella 1895, and A beszélö köntös/The Magic Caftan 1899.

Mikszáth was also a member of parliament for 20 years.
